TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — Police have arrested a man who they say struck a police officer in a New Jersey strip mall parking lot and briefly dragged him. Toms River Officer Ralph Stocco says a 15-year police veteran suffered injuries that aren’t life-threatening in Tuesday’s incident. Stocco says Officer Daniel Brennan responded to a Division of Motor Vehicles office after a man tried to use false identification. They say the officer was talking with the man outside when the suspect ran into his car. Stocco says drove his car in reverse and Brennan became trapped between the door and driver’s seat. Brennan was dragged at least 25 yards before he broke free and the driver took off. The suspect was taken into custody about two hours later. Investigators didn’t immediately identify him.
