Willie Nile & Band with very special guests Fantastic Cat

WILLIE NILE & BAND return to the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park for 4th of July weekend Summer Night of great Rock ‘n Roll. The New York Times called Buffalo, NY born Willie Nile “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years.” Uncut Magazine called him “A one-man Clash.” His album Streets Of New York was hailed as “a platter for the ages” by Uncut. Rolling Stone listed The Innocent Ones as one of the “Top Ten Best Under-The-Radar Albums of 2011” and BBC Radio called it “THE rock ‘n’ roll album of the year.” His single from that album, “One Guitar,” was the “Top Pick of the Week” in USA Today. Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Townshend, Lou Reed, Lucinda Williams, Jim Jarmusch, and Little Steven are among those who have sung his praises. MOJO wrote about his 2016 album World War Willie, “Four Stars! The real thing…stomp-‘til-ready rock’n’roll…timeless fare.” It won Album of the Year Reader’s Poll from Twangville Magazine and made numerous top ten lists for album of the year. His album Positively Bob: Willie Nile Sings Bob Dylan from 2017 was hailed as “one of the best Dylan tribute albums ever made.” Powerpop Magazine wrote: “Astoundingly great…must be heard to be believed.” And the Associated Press said his 2018 album Children Of Paradise “Might be the best album of his career!” Willie has toured across the U.S. with The Who and has sung with Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. As the induction program from the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame says: “His live performances are legendary.” His 2020 album New York At Night got rave reviews, with Downbeat calling it a “sonic love letter to Gotham.” His latest studio album The Day The Earth Stood Still, which features a duet with Steve Earle on the song “Blood On Your Hands.”.
ACCOLADES: “The unofficial poet laureate of New York City.” – Uncut; “Better than most performers have to offer by far.” — Rolling Stone; “Clash/Social Distortion meets Pete Seeger…a true master songwriter!” – Hits; “Crossing the power of the Clash with the social consciousness of Woody Guthrie…he’s stronger than ever!” – The Morton Report; “Willie Nile is a great artist. If there was any justice in this world, I’d be opening up for him instead of him for me.” Lucinda Williams; “The epitome of real, true American rock ’n’ roll!” – Pop Matters; “He’s a rocker’s rocker, protégé of the famous.” — USA Today; “A man who embodies the true spirit of rock n’ roll.” – London Times

***Opening the show will be the new “supergroup” FANTASTIC CAT, four established songwriters joining forces to form a single band! Individually, each member of Fantastic Cat boasts their own impressive resume along with a litany of critical acclaim. The Guardian dubbed DON DILEGO “one to watch.” NPR said ANTHONY D’AMATO “sings and writes in the tradition of Bruce Springsteen or Josh Ritter.” Rolling Stone called BRIAN DUNNE’s latest single a “stunner” and praised MIKE MONTALI’s band, Hollis Brown, as “the soundtrack for a late-night drive through the American heartland.” Collectively, though, the four transcend their respective roots, emerging as an instrument-swapping, harmony-trading, tear-jerking, wise-cracking rock and roll cooperative far greater than the sum of its parts. Their debut album, The Very Best Of Fantastic Cat, will be out this summer on Blue Rose Music.

We not only provide a voice for the coast, but also give concerned citizens the knowledge and tools they need to raise their voices with us. When we restore habitat, our objective is not only to restore a dune or rebuild an oyster reef, but also to motivate people to invest “sweat equity” into a piece of the coast, take ownership and become committed stewards.

3rd annual ‘A Very Asbury Holiday Show’

The Stone Pony to Host the Return of “A Very Asbury Holiday Show” on December 9, 2021

Tickets are now on sale for The Asbury Park Music Foundation’s annual “A Very Asbury Holiday Show” fundraiser, featuring Pat Roddy & Friends

The Asbury Park Music Foundation (APMF) announced today that the 3rd Annual “A Very Asbury Holiday Show” will take place at the Stone Pony on December 9, 2021 at 7PM. Tickets are on sale online now for $27 and will also be available at the Stone Pony box office and the APMF table at the Asbury Fresh market on Saturdays at Kennedy Park. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $32 on the night of the show. Proceeds directly benefit APMF and it’s mission.

Previous year’s sellout shows raised thousands of dollars for APMF’s youth music programs, scholarships, and live music initiatives. In addition, the show will again be a drop-off location for unwrapped gifts for local families in need.

“It’s my privilege to support the Asbury Park Music Foundation, which uses music as the foundation for the future success of under-resourced youth,” said headliner Pat Roddy. “It’s an honor to be a part of this tradition.” Layonne Holmes, Brian Kirk, Patti Maloney, and Eddie Testa will all join Roddy on the bill. Other musicians and friends will be announced in the coming weeks.

APMF’s free Music Mondays summer concerts in Springwood Park, the Cookman Live series in the downtown business district, and AP Concert Band shows in Bradley Park are some of Asbury Park’s most popular and well-attended events, uniting the community and attracting visitors and residents from all over to town. They also invest in the future by offering life-changing music programs that provide under-served youth with confidence, discipline, and relationships that improve their future success and economic mobility.

As always, this show is made possible by the extraordinary generosity of sponsors and musicians alike who are dedicated to the betterment of their community through the power of music. APMF wishes to thank LOCALiQ/Asbury Park Press, The Coaster, MOGO Korean Fusion, Premselaar Foundation, and Rockrete Recycling Corporation for their ongoing commitment to Asbury Park.
